蘭竹梅 Three Friends of Winter
This dance was edited from the famous Chinese musical Jiao Xiang Shui Yun.
The silk ribbon, sword, and double fans play important roles in this dance,
for they represent the orchid, bamboo, and plum. The graceful dancers
exhibit the personality and beauty of each implement. The complexity and
magnificence portrayed in this dance have allowed it to become one of the
most important dances in our Academy. |

槍板凳
Fight for the Bench
Young
children at a parade are fighting for the bench so that they will be able to
see the Lantern Performance.

鈴鐺舞 Tinklebell Dance
This is a Korean classical dance.
Originally performed by adults, now children take on their roles and engage
the audience through a new perspective. The dancers exhibit the happiness
and friendship of the girls through elaborate uses of bells. |

傣女 Dai Girls
Dai girls along the Lan Chang River are gentle in temperament. They have
a beautiful body. Their dances are graceful.

Hui-An Girls
In Fujian province, Hui-An girls, labor on land wearing their hats and
scarves to protect themselves against the strong sea winds and sunshine,
await their husbands who are fishing out in the sea. |

This is a dance played in Imperial Palace performed by Manchurian girls.
This is dace expresses graceful and active spirits. |

A Mongolian dance exhibiting the
desire for freedom like eagles flying in a blue sky, and horses galloping in
the big prairie. |

Sword Dance
Deep in the night, while the silvery moon curves like a hook in the sky, our
excited heroine practices her swordsmanship to show her patriotism.
Soon her comrades awaken to join her in training. |

Dreaming of a creekside Village
Green waves, a clear blue sky, the girl's dance possesses natural grace, as
if there were ripples on the lake. |

Under the Trellis of Grapevines
Friends from after arrive during the wonderful
grape harvest, inspiring then to dance with joy. |

金山戰鼓Battle
Drum on Mount Jin
This dance is based upon the story of a female general. Liang
Hong-Yu of the Song Dynasty. She led her sons into Battle when enemy
troops started to attack. Inspiring her troops with the throbbing
drumbeats with eventually drove her enemy's back. |

盗仙草 Stealing the Magic
Herb <Short Dance Drama>
This
dance was derived from the folk tale "The White Snake Saga" of the Beijing
opera. The scene opens with a snake scaring Xu Xian to death, and Bai Niang
Zi, Xu Xian’s wife, must rescue him. She learns of a rare medicinal herb
that has the power to revive her husband; the only problem is actually
obtaining the herb. Bai Niang Zi travels to the forbidden mountains of the
South Polar region, while overcoming numerous obstacles and hardships along
the way. In the end, she was finally able to steal the medicinal herb and
save her husband. This dance was created from the Academy of Chinese
Performing Arts’ own unique teaching methods. Thus, it is one of the most
emphasized dances in our repertoire. |
